Opal Cave Necklace with Stalactite Drop
Handcrafted in oxidized sterling silver, this one-of-a-kind talisman brings together a rough Ethiopian opal and a hand-formed recycled silver stalactite.
The stalactite is made slowly by hand from recycled sterling silver scraps. The silver is melted into molten metal, then gently guided and shaped with my tools until a form reminiscent of a cave formation emerges. Its irregular surface and descending shape echo the mineral deposits that accumulate, layer by layer, in the darkness of a cave.
Caves have long held a place in the human imagination as primordial sacred spaces. They were places apart from the ordinary world, where people descended into darkness for ritual, transformation, and communion with something greater than themselves. There is something powerful about entering a place where the light disappears and the inner world becomes more visible.
The rough Ethiopian opal carries that feeling beautifully. Left in its raw, layered state, it has an almost geological quality, while flashes of color seem to emanate from deep within the stone. It becomes a small source of light in the darkness and a reminder that what is hidden can still be luminous.
A talisman for the descent inward. For entering the dark places with reverence, listening for what has been forming there slowly, and finding the light that was there all along.
One of a kind. Ready to ship.
Materials: Rough Ethiopian Opal, Oxidized Sterling Silver, Recycled Sterling Silver
Opal pendant is removable from the chain, the stalactite is not.
Chain: 18 inches | Opal pendant: approx. 1 x 0.5 inches | Stalactite drop: 1.75 inches, hanging 3.5 inches
